One of my favourite lines in the movie The Full Monty is when Dave musing over Gerald’s wife’s anti-wrinkle cream, lamented that what he really needed was some ‘anti-fat bastard cream’. According to the State of the World 2004 report produced by the Worldwatch Institute, Dave is not alone.
When is bad, really, really bad? According to BBC News, Thirsty Africa faces food crisis, the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) reckon that with “business as usual” policies and investments, the number of Africans without access to clean water will more than double to 401 million by 2025, with maybe as many as 523 million people being affected.
From watching TV and catching up with a few rellies, it is is evident that even the most pastey-faced of Brits looks bronzed and healthy after the warmest summer in years. Indeed, it has been hard to avoid the hot sun in Europe, and this has not been without its cost.
My blogging is likely to be even more spasmodic than usual over the next few weeks on account of my relocation to Singapore (via France). Furthermore, typing on a French keyboard is unlikely to enhance my productivity any!
