Masters of the Business Apocalypse

Having made a living from teaching on (and selling) MBA programmes for much of the last two decades, an article referred by a friend that appeared in The Times last month caught my attention. Philip Delves Broughton is a Harvard MBA graduate himself, but not a big fan, it seems, if this article is anything to go by. Listing some (in)famous fellow graduates of the venerable Ivy League business school, Delves Broughton suggests that HBS ought to be feeling contrite about the fact the business leaders they have produced can bear much of the responsibility for the current financial crisis. Funnily enough, I’ve heard this story before, not long after the Enron debacle. Maybe if there were an MBA curriculum that was thoroughly grounded in the principles of sustainability, history might stop repeating itself.
